Spring ISD elementary and middle school students are invited to embark on a summer filled with imagination, learning, and literary adventures through the district’s Journey Into Reading program. This year’s theme, “A World of Colorful Stories,” encourages students to explore new places, cultures, and ideas—all through the pages of a book.
The program officially kicked off on June 2 with a splash with a Summer Kick-Off Foam Party at the Barbara Bush Library (6817 Cypresswood Dr., Spring, TX), where students enjoyed bubbles, laughter, and the joy of community. The celebration marked the beginning of what promises to be an unforgettable summer full of reading and discovery.
“This summer reading program is more than just a seasonal activity—it’s a gateway to imagination, discovery, and academic growth,” said Spring ISD Interim Superintendent Dr. Kregg Cuellar. “By encouraging our students to read throughout the summer, we’re helping them build confidence, strengthen their literacy skills, and return to school better prepared for success.”
Families are also encouraged to visit the Barbara Bush Branch Library, where students can access even more reading materials and enjoy special events. The library is open to all Spring ISD students who want to beat the heat and dive into a great book.

Students can choose to read from a variety of materials—traditional print books, eBooks, audiobooks, graphic novels, and even magazines—offering something for every interest and reading level. In addition to reading, students can attend other fun and educational events at the Barbara Bush Library to earn bonus points.
Elementary and middle school students will compete in separate divisions, and recognition will be given at both the campus and district levels. Each campus will honor up to six winners.
Those campus winners will then move on to the district level, where the top scorers in each grade band and languages will be crowned district champions in August.
